Nigerians shine as Pochettino's son makes appearance in Tottenham's 5-2 defeat to Arsenal

Maurizio Pochettino was part of the Tottenham Hotspur team that lost to Arsenal in the fourth round of their FA Youth Cup fourth round on Thursday night.

Two goals from Saka, and one each from Amechi, Balogun and Cotrell sealed the win for the Gunners youth team.

The 17-year-old son of Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino came off the bench in the last nine minutes of the extra minutes.

By the time the Argentine youngster was introduced into the game, the Lilywhites were already trailing their north London rivals 5-2.

The youngster's profile on Tottenham's website according to Daily Mail states he is: "A wide player with an eye for goal, Maurizio Pochettino was born in Barcelona and has since lived in Paris and Southampton."

Threading his father's career path played at Espanyol before moving to Paris Saint-Germain where Mauricio finished his playing days.

He also got his coaching career started at the Barcelona based club before joining Southampton in 2013.

The 46-year-old then spend just one season with the Saints after which he was appointed Spurs new manager in 2014.

And when Pochettino switched jobs in May 2014, his son made the followed suit as he dumped Southampton's academy to Tottenham's six months later.

The youngster has however grown through the ranks, combining football with academic studies at Aldenham School initially.

Having joined Spurs academy on a full-time basis as a scholar in 2017, Maurizio afterwards made his first appearances for the youth team in the Under-18 Premier League.

Daily Mail reveals that he helped his side with a 2-1 win at old club Southampton in his debut at that level and Pochettino scored for the first time in a 5-2 win at Swansea in November 2017.

He made six appearances for Scott Parker's U18 side that season, mostly as a right winger, and also played three times from the bench in the team's run to the Under-18 Premier League Cup final.

Maurizio was on the scores sheet in his side's 7-0 drubbing of Norwich back in October and in December made his debut for the Under-23 side in a win at Manchester City.

Though they were blown away in extra time against Arsenal, ending their Youth Cup aspirations for another season, they have a great chance of winning the league title.

Spurs are also still in the UEFA Youth League, where they are due to play Greek side PAOK in the play-off round next month.4
