Jake Bainbridge, 25, sped the wrong way around traffic islands and crashed through a hedge and fence before he left his car in a field

A dangerous driver was caught on camera as he hurtled across Stockton at up to 80mph trying to escape police.

Jake Bainbridge, 25, did not stop for officers as a pursuit began with blue lights and sirens on Myrtle Road and Honey Way, Stockton .

He drove at 60mph with "no regard for the speed limit", prosecutor Emma Atkinson told Teesside Crown Court on Monday.

He reached 80mph in a 30mph zone as he tore away down Dumbarton Avenue, Darlington Lane and Durham Road.

With a female passenger in the Ford Fiesta, he ran a red light, narrowly avoided hitting another vehicle which had to slow down.

The officer managed to pull the car over, but as he approached it, Bainbridge took off again.

Then he turned his lights off and drove on the wrong side of the road and the wrong way around two traffic islands and a roundabout.

He travelled down Harrowgate Lane, again reaching 80mph in a 30mph zone, then on Darlington Back Lane with lights off in the dark.

He crashed through a hedge and fence before stopping in a field, the court heard.

He fled, ignoring the officer who had to threaten him with a Taser to detain him, added the prosecutor.{{file|t=suBQn_1548097564}}
