Magic and Pelinka?

Everybody talks about Maginka like they're some sort of two-headed Siamese twin, but are they?

It is certainly true that Magic makes an incredible face of the franchise, a tremendously charismatic individual with an incredible resume, but is his vision of what constitutes a winning team accurate? Maybe Pelinka is a great GM and Magic is a not-so-good president of operations.

One of the biggest things they get credit for is getting off the mozgov contract. I suspect that was mostly Pelinka's doing.

Another thing they get huge credit for is drafting Kuzma and secondarily Hart. To the best of my knowledge the scouting department deserves the main credit for that, although you have to give magic and pelinka credit for listening to the scouting department.

And LeBron. That clearly is Magic's doing. Whether he works out or not, whatever happens, the praise or blame is due to Magic. Ditto for whether a second free agent comes.

What about letting Randle go for nothing. Should the team have resigned Brook Lopez, who would have come cheap. What about not having enough Centers to start the season and not having enough shooters on the team.

The trade last year with Cleveland to clear cap space? Clearly a gamble that someone would come. What would this year look like with Nance and Clarkson still around, not to mention Randle, Lopez and maybe Thomas Bryant.

From here it looks like Magic decides what he wants to do and then has Pelinka take care of the details. I'm sure Magic consults and listens to him but in the end Magic is the one who sets the vision for the team, and it seems like the only thing Magic can see is Stars. Blue Collar guys simply don't move his needle. That's true of a lot of today's NBA, but in the end Stars without great role players do not win titles.

The jury is still out on whether the whole LeBron thing works out and we really won't know until a second free agent comes, if they do. Maybe it's too soon to ask, but

How do you gentlemen and ladies evaluate the job done so far by Magic and Pelinka as separate entities, not as Maginka?
