[Baseball] Baseball Falcons Drop a Pair of Games at (RV) Texas Wesleyan
Ft. Worth, Texas – The Friends University Falcons lost twice at the (RV) Texas Wesleyan University Rams by scores of 18-3 and 10-2 today (Jan. 25) in the season opener at Sycamore Park in Ft. Worth, Texas
Down 2-0 in the first game, Emilio Escamilla scored on an RBI groundout by Bobby Stewart (JR/Naples, Fla. ) to put the Falcons on the board.
The Rams then broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning.
TWU was bolstered in the opener by four RBIs each from Jeddediah Fagg and Brooks Wallace.
Alex Dafoe (SR/Lake Havasu City, Ariz.) struck out three for the Falcons and allowed eight earned runs in his four innings.
Matt Contreras (JR/Friant, Calif. ) pitched a scoreless inning and had one strikeout in his Falcon debut.
Cameron Vige was the winner for the Rams, lasting 4.2 innings and giving up one earned run with three strikeouts.
Gabriel Corona (JR/Fresno, Calif. ) also had an RBI for Friends in his first career game.
The Falcons would get on the board first in the nightcap when Jace Snodgrass (SR/Derby, Kan.) led off the game with the first of his three hits and scored on a passed ball.
Sheadion Jamanika then put the Rams in front to stay with a grand slam in the bottom of the inning.
Emilio Navarro (SR/Porterville, Calif. ) helped the Falcons manufacture another run in the second by drawing a leadoff walk, stealing second and eventually scoring on a wild pitch.
It remained a two-run game until Mark Schreiner delivered a pinch-hit three-run double to spark a six-run sixth inning for the Rams to put it away.
Snodgrass went 3-of-4 at the plate for the Falcons and Ricardo Paris (JR/Barquisimeto, Valenzuela) picked up two hits for the Falcons.
Brayden Bahnsen went 3-of-5 for TWU and scored twice.
Austin Eggleston (JR/Arlington, Texas) went five innings in his first career start for the Falcons, striking out an impressive nine batters and allowing three earned runs.
Houston Glad got the win for the Rams after surrendering one earned run over 4.1 innings.
The Falcons are back at it tomorrow (Jan. 26) for another twinbill vs. Texas College at noon. The games will again be played at TWU in Ft. Worth.
