Carrollton, TX - Two police officers in Carrollton narrowly avoided disaster early Sunday morning, when an alleged drunken driver came barreling toward their vehicles as they worked a crash. No officers were injured but it was undoubtedly a close call. "I don't know how close it came to them, but it was close enough that it's of concern," said Sgt. Brian Box with the Carrollton Police Department. Carrollton police say two officers were working a minor crash in the northbound lanes of Interstate 35 near Crosby Road just before 4 a.m. Sunday when the drunken driving suspect slammed into the back of one of their police Chevy Tahoes. The driver, 30-year-old Welsey Tyree, was going about 70 miles per hour while intoxicated and hit the Tahoe with such great impact it wrecked into another police Tahoe, police said.
