Sounders open two international slots

Kelvin Leerdam and Jordy Delem have received their green cards ahead of closed-door scrimmage against Atlanta United.

President of Soccer Garth Lagerwey will have some more flexibility to complete his roster as Kelvin Leerdam and Jordy Delem have both acquired green cards and will no longer occupy international slots. The Seattle Sounders now have two open international slots.

The club also announced that Tucker Bone left camp to return to the Air Force Academy. The cadet needs to complete his coursework and graduate before the Department of Defense will consider his entry into the World Class Athlete Program. Bone did remote studies during his week with the Sounders. Draftees Aleks Berkolds and Joel Rydstrand remain with the Sounders.

In other training camp news, Atlanta United and the Sounders will conduct a closed door scrimmage on February 2 at Cal State-Fullterton.

Most of Tacoma Defiance’s contracted players who came through the Academy are with the club in SoCal, while the others were at the rebranding reveal. Their USL Championship-specific camp will open in a few weeks. Their rostered players will participate in various parts of MLS preseason.

A few Academy players are training with the MLS side — Sam Fowler (K), Blake Malone (CB), and Conor Drought (fullback) are in SoCal.

Calle Brown did not make the SoCal swing.
