[Baseball] Baseball Falcons Tripped Up at No. 25 LSU-Shreveport
SHREVEPORT, La. – The Friends University Falcons fell by scores of 6-0 and 8-4 today (Feb. 1) to the No. 25-ranked LSU-Shreveport Pilots in Shreveport, La.
In the second game, the Falcons got on the board with three runs in the first inning.
Jace Snodgrass (SR/Derby, Kan.) and Gabriel Corona (JR/Fresno, Calif. ) each singled in the first and crossed the plate with the Falcons' first two runs. Troy Puga (JR/Pueblo, Colo.) scored on a sacrifice fly by Isiah Perez (JR/Larned, Kan. ) to finish the frame.
After the Pilots plated two runs in the bottom of the inning, Snodgrass singled again and scored to make it 4-2 on another hit by Corona.
But it was all Pilots from there, as Austin McNicholas led off the third with a homer and Corey Bellot had a two-run triple in a four-run inning.
The Pilots (5-0) then tacked on two more runs in the sixth to conclude the scoring.
Snodgrass wound up going three-of-four at the plate for the Falcons in the nightcap.
Austin Eggleston (JR/Arlington, Texas) started for Friends and went 5 2/3 innings, striking out eight and allowing four earned runs.
The opening tilt saw the Falcons fall into a 4-0 hole when Caleb Lasseigne and McNicholas each drove in a pair of runs in the second.
That would be more than enough for starting pitcher Hunter Cunningham, who blanked the Falcons on two hits over six innings.
Alex Dafoe (SR/Lake Havasu City, Ariz.) also went six innings for the Falcons (1-5), giving up five runs with eight strikeouts.
The two teams will wrap up the weekend series tomorrow (Feb. 2) at 1 pm.
