Residents in Townsville, Queensland, were warned of further heavy rainfall and damaging winds on February 2 following several days of severe weather that have threatened to overwhelm a nearby dam. Authorities were releasing water from the Ross Dam, which 9News reported was at 186 percent of capacity on January 1. The releases triggered flooding downstream however, which forced the evacuation of about 100 homes.
