[Men's Wrestling] Wrestlers Compete at Sioux City Open
Doane Wrestling competed in the Sioux City Dave Edmonds Open on Saturday, hosted by Morningside. The Tigers had four wrestlers compete on the day.
In the 149-pound division, Kalen Roth (FR/Walton, Neb.) dropped by matches by decision. He fell 13-7 to Brad Wiggs of Briar Cliff and 8-5 to Northwestern's Matthew Shuka.
Garrett Cornwell (FR/Albion, Neb.) competed at 165. He lost both of his matches to Concordia wrestlers by decision. Against Blake Castillo, Cornwell fell 11-4. In the final match, Gabriel Crawford picked up a 9-4 win.
Scott Teesdale (FR/Loveland, Colo.) dropped his opening match at 174 to Jonah Egli of Morningside by pin. In the second match, Brandon Tessau of Iowa State won by major decision, 20-7.
Perry Baltz (SO/Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) had the lone win on the day for the Tigers. After dropping a 15-0 tech fall decision to Iowa State's Kaden Sauer, Baltz came back with a pin fall victory. He defeated Jarret Haglund of Augustana in 4:32. In the final match, Daniel Pena of Midland squeaked out a 2-1 decision.
Next up for the Tigers is the GPAC Championships and NAIA direct qualifier for nationals on February 16 in Orange City, Iowa.
