Hundreds of thousands jam downtown Boston for yet another Patriots parade

0

Hundreds of thousands of New England Patriots fans, whose heartrending, two-year-long title drought happily ended on Sunday with a historically drab victory in Super Bowl LIII, packed the streets of downtown Boston on Tuesday as their team — led by scrappy underdog quarterback Tom Brady and his rascally curmudgeon of a head coach, Bill Belichick — was given its sixth such parade in 17 years, The Associated Press reports.

Ably dispelling his frat-bro image, tight end Rob Gronkowski tore off his shirt to dance amid signs reading "We Got Everything," one of the more charmingly humble slogans in recent memory. At least one fan of the Los Angeles Rams, who played their worst offensive game of the season in the 13-3 loss, was spotted in the crowd, no doubt drawn by the sense of childlike wonder that only a Patriots championship can bring.

Chants of "We want seven!" and "Next year, right here!" could be heard along the route, reports AP, and with the city's tragic run of sports failure — the Red Sox won the World Series last October, practically a lifetime ago, while the Celtics have won a mere 17 championships in their forgettable history — one hopes that those statements are prophetic. Fan Lauren Mills told AP that Brady should now set out to win a seventh Super Bowl, as "He still has how many fingers left? You know, four more rings to go." Football fans across America no doubt hope that Mills and her fellow Pats fans get their wish — that the handsome megastar can fill his every bare digit with diamonds and gold.
