Man United star launches attack on former boss Jose Mourinho

French winger Anthony Martial has launched an attack on former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho for Paul Pogba's average performances in the first half of the season.

The World Cup winning midfielder has scored six goals and five assists in his last eight Premier League games since the sack of the Portuguese tactician in December.

He has also been instrumental to the Reds ten match unbeaten run in all competitions under their interim handler Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

SunSport reports that Martial, who recently signed a new long term deal with the Old Trafford outfit believes his countryman has always been a quality player.

He however insisted that Mourinho had undermined his abilities - hence the low productivity from the former Juventus star.

Martial insisted that United are seeing "the real Paul Pogba" and hopes the midfielder maintains his top performances for the club.

Both Martial and Pogba were unhappy under the former Chelsea boss and would have used the exit door if the 56 year old was still in charge at Old Trafford.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "We all know what quality Paul possesses - Paul is Paul.

"Now he has got the freedom to play, I think we are beginning to see the real Paul Pogba and let's hope it continues.

"He is a leader, he talks more in the dressing room than he does on the field to be fair.

"Technically and with the spoken word, he is a leader in both sense. I hope he can continue to lead us to great things."

Having enjoyed an impressive run since the arrival of Solskjaer, Martial believes the Red Devils can finish in the Champions League position at the end of the season.

He said: "I don't think we are very far off the top four now.

"So it is just a case of keeping going, winning as many games as we can so we can ensure a place in those Champions League spots at the end of the season."

Martial, 23, has scored twice and United are unbeaten in ten games since Solskjaer took over in December.

Speaking about the interim boss, he added: "He [Solskjaer] is a coach with great values.

"I think he knows how to get the best out of players and he makes things clear when we go out on to the field. "We all know our jobs and we all know what we've got to do."

Legit.ng earlier reported that France international Anthony Martial has signed a new long term contract extension at Manchester United until the summer of 2024.

The 23-year-old has been exciting for the Red Devils so far this campaign - scoring nine goals and one assist in all competitions.

United announce the deal on their official website adding that they were delighted the winger committed his future to the club.
