How pregnant women, disabled persons will be treated during general elections - INEC reveals

- INEC has said that pregnant women and disabled persons will get preferential treatment during the polls

- The electoral body on Thursday, February 7, said that these categories of voters will be given a separate row for their convenience

- It said that it such persons will not be treated in the same poor manner as it was during the 2015 general polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) through its Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the Kano, Professor Riskuwa Arabu Shehu, said preferential treatment will be given to pregnant women and physically challenged persons during the forthcoming general polls, Daily Trust reports.

Shebu, on Thursday, February 7, said that unlike what happened in the 2015 general elections, a special row will be provided for the above-named categories of persons.

Represented by the spokesman of the commission in Kano, Malam Garba Lawan Muhammad, the REC said the electoral body is on the move to sensitise women, civil society groups and disabled persons role in ensuring free, credible and fair polls.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that INEC said it would deploy more than 22,000 ad-hoc staff for election duty in Borno, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Alhaji Muhammad Ibrahim, has said.

Ibrahim said on Thursday in Maiduguri that the ad-hoc staff would be deployed as election officers to the 27 local government areas of the state in the forthcoming general election.

He disclosed that the ad hoc workers were selected among the federal civil servants, members of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), university lecturers and teachers in tertiary institutions of learning in the state.
