Mexico City police beat a protester during student march in this September 1968 photo days before the military gunned down hundreds of students during a similar peaceful march at Tlatelolco Plaza in Mexico City. The Tlatelolco massacre was part of a series of repressive violence in Mexico known as the "Dirty War" that influenced much of Alonzo Cuarón's Oscar-nominated "Roma" (inset).
