Dashcam Video: Fatal Stolen Vehicle Crash

On Feb. 7, 2019 at 11:51 a.m., OPD Dispatch received report of a stolen white Jeep Cherokee. At 10:33 p.m., officers located the vehicle in the 1100 block of west S. R. 40. Upon initiation of a traffic stop, the driver of the stolen vehicle fled and a pursuit ensued. On I-75 northbound, approximately one mile north of Hwy. 27, the driver lost control and rolled the vehicle off the right shoulder. He was ejected and trauma alerted to a local hospital.

Despite all immediate life-saving measures performed by officers on scene, as well as by EMS and hospital personnel, the driver was pronounced deceased at 11:05 p.m. He has been identified as Evan Smith (DOB: 11/30/1968). We extend our condolences to his family.
