JK Simmons’ ‘Counterpart’ Canceled by Starz After 2 Seasons
Starz has canceled “Counterpart” starring JK Simmons after two seasons, a rep for the cable channel confirmed for TheWrap.
Creator and executive producer Justin Marks first tweeted out news of his show’s cancellation on Monday. Marks is hopeful studio MRC finds a new home for the series.
He began: “Hey #counterpart fans, a bit of sad news… Starz has decided not to pick up our show for a 3rd season…”
Marks continued:
“It’s been an absolute dream for this team… we got to make EXACTLY the show we wanted to… perfect cast, perfect crew on 2 continents… and we’re so grateful to our network for the time we had…”
“Thank you to everyone who made this journey so special for us. Your tweets, podcasts, and intricate conspiracy theories have made it all worthwhile. Fingers crossed that our wonderful studio, MRC, can find a way to keep the dream alive!”

“Counterpart,” which also starred Harry Lloyd, Olivia Williams and Nazanin Boniadi, follows a hapless UN employee who discovers the agency he works for is hiding a gateway to a parallel dimension that’s in Cold War with our own, and where his other self is a top spy, per the show’s logline. The war slowly heats up thanks to spies from both sides.
