The Reserve Bank of Australia has called for education authorities to intervene in a bid to stop the sharp decline of senior students studying economics. Figures indicate a dramatic decrease over the past two decades, as just 7 per cent of Year 12 students studied economics in 2018 compared to 40 per cent in 1991. The RBA has made a submission to the New South Wales Curriculum Review, requesting economics have a 'more prominent place in a refreshed curriculum'. Reportedly only 30 per cent of public schools and 55 per cent of non-government schools offer economics as a subject.
