[Men's Basketball] Bearcats Open the RSC Men's Basketball Tournament on the Road at #9 WVT
The Brescia University Men's Basketball will play in their first round Conference Tournament game at ninth ranked WVT on Wednesday in Beckley, WV. This is the third time in three years under Head Coach Brian Skortz that the Bearcats have qualified for the men's basketball conference tournament. The Bearcats defeated WVT back on Jan 5th 102-98. They were led by Dillon Gerlads who scored 27 point and Kayode Daboiku who chipped in with 20 points in the win. The focus starts with WVT and All American Elisha Boone. Boone is averaging a double double this season scoring 19 ppg and 11 rpg as well. "He is very good. The things he can do offensively, is his ability to attack the rim but he can pull up on you as well. He is so talented offensively." commented Head Coach Brian Skortz. "But they have other options to score as well. Shingles, Arrey, and Collins all can score at high rates at any given time. They are a program that rank 2nd in the nation scoring 95,9 ppg. and they are playing well at home." added Coach Skortz. The Bearcats have played nine teams ranked in the top 25 this season and are no strangers on being on the road. Coach Skortz feels that their schedule has given his Bearcats the experience that will help them being on the road in the RSC Tournament. The Bearcats also have been defending the three point shot well ranking in the top 20 in the nation in 3pt fg%. WVT makes 11.5 three's while shooting 42% behind the arc. The last time these two teams played the Bearcats were able to hit as many threes as WVT but forced WVT into 21 turnovers. "We know we must play better than we did the last time there even though we won the game. Both teams have a lot on the line with the winner of the conference torunament getting an automatic bid. WVT will get the second conference bid due to the fact they won the overall conference this year if they do not win the tournament. We must match their intensity and limit our mistakes in order to win. We look forward to the challenge they are a very good program and know they will be ready for Wednesday night." added Coach Skortz. Brescia plays WVT at 7:30pm EST in Berkley with the winner moving on to Saturday's semi-final game.
