Do not over declare your, also an offense too - Gombe CCB tells civil servants

- CCB also said it is an offence if any public office holder does not make asset declaration properly
- The Bureau also said it also criminal if any civil servant under declares their assets
The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) in Gombe has asked public servants in the state to declare their assets in line with constitutional requirement.
Panyi Baira, the director of the bureau in the state made this known during an interview with journalists in the state on Tuesday, February 16, Vanguard reports.

He said: “Asset declaration is a constitutional requirement that has to be fulfilled by all government workers from the lowest government employee to the highest office in the country as required by law.
“The law says career civil servants must declare once after each and every four years, but for political office holders, they must declare their assets when they assume office and when they leave, be it elective or appointed.”
He, however, said some civil servants and public office holders have been positive in their response to the asset declaration without being prompted to do so.
Baira said that that a failure to declare asset as a public officer according to the dictates of the law is an offense
He added: “Failure to declare assets by public officer can lead to confiscation by Court of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) and the assets accordingly become government property.”
The CCB also said over-declaration and under-declaration of assets is also an offence.

Recall that Legit.ng previously reported that a Kaduna state high court on Friday, February 8, issued a warrant of arrest against the chairman of CCB for contempt over a case in which Governor El Rufai was alleged to have declared N90 billion in his CCB assets declaration form.
The warrant of arrest was issued by Justice Mario Mohammed after the chairman had ignored several summons by the court in a suit between Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufa’i and Today’s publishing Company Limited, and one other.
