INEC sensitive materials finally in CBN's safe hands - Police in Enugu

- The police command in Enugu has announced that polls material to be used by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have been returned safely

- The police commissioner in the state, Suleiman Balarebe, revealed that the materials were safely escorted by policemen to the Central Bank of Nigeria for safekeeping

- Balarebe urged all residents in the state to work with the police before, during and even after the elections

Suleiman Balarebe, the Enugu police commissioner on Tuesday, February 19, confirmed that elections materials have been retrieved and escorted to the Central Bank of Nigeria to be kept safely.

TVC News reports that Suleiman said that the command will do its utmost to ensure the tight security during the rescheduled presidential and National Assembly elections, urging residents in the state to cooperate with the police for the success of the exercises.

In an earlier post, Legit.ng reported that Emeka Ononamadu, Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state had said that all sensitive materials already distributed in the state would be retrieved.

The REC said the materials would be returned to the custody of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) branch in the state.

“We have been directed to return all the sensitive materials to the CBN, Enugu. And the process is already on as I am briefing you now under heavy armed security to ensure that integrity of the materials will be ensured.

“It will be in the protective custody of the CBN, under heavy security presence, until Wednesday when it will be escorted by the same security personnel back the council headquarters.

“While in the following day, beginning from Thursday, the sensitive materials will be moved to the Registration Area Centres (RAC) under heavy security as well," he said.
