Heavy security as INEC moves sensitive electoral materials to CBN in Ekiti
- The Ekiti state police command has promised water-tight security for sensitive electoral materials ahead of poll in the state
- Independent National Electoral Commission had retrieved the electoral materials back from its Ekiti office after postponing the election
- Ahead of the new date, police said security personnel have being deployed to Ekiti branch of Central Bank of Nigeria where the materials are kept
With 5 days to the new date scheduled for the presidential and National Assembly elections, the Ekiti state police command has promised a high security for the retrieved sensitive election materials kept at Ekiti branch of Central Bank of Nigeria.
Speaking at Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday, February 19, the state police commissioner, Asuquo Amba, said there was no room for security lapses as all hands were on deck on necessary measures.
He also added that more security personnel have been deployed to where the materials are kept pending the February 23 election across the 16 local government areas in the state.

Speaking through the Ekiti police public relation officer, DSP Caleb Ikechukwu, Amba said: “If you visit the CBN office in Ekiti now, you will see more security men around the place.
''We are cognisant of the fact that security lapses could mar these coming polls and we are guarding against that.''

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti, on Sunday, February 17, accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of alleged plan to rig the presidential and National Assembly elections in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The state PDP chairman, Chief Gboyega Oguntuase, who addressed a news conference at Afao Ekiti, the country home of former governor Ayo Fayose, alleged that INEC was slow in withdrawing electoral materials earlier distributed for the polls before its postponement.
