INEC mistakenly took Kebbi’s electoral materials to Kaduna - REC

- INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Kebbi state, Ahmad Mahmud, said some sensitive election materials meant for Kebbi were taken to Kaduna state

- Mahmud added that some materials meant for Katsina were brought to Kebbi state

- The REC who said the mistake was discovered during the inspection, however, promised that elections will take place in the LGAs in the state as the mistake was already being rectified

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Kebbi state, Ahmad Mahmud has said that some of the sensitive election materials meant for the Saturday, February 23 elections in Kebbi state were “mistakenly” taken to Kaduna state and those meant for Katsina were brought to Kebbi state.

According to Daily Trust, the REC made this known during his interactions with journalists after inspecting the elections sensitive materials at the Central Bank of Nigeria’s state office in Birnin Kebbi.

Mahmud said “two of our forms-EC 8D1 and EC 8E1 were mistakenly taken to Kaduna and that of Katsina was brought to Kebbi.

“We discover it during the inspection and they are already bringing it back to Kebbi.”

He said INEC in Kebbi state had received all the sensitive materials meant for the presidential and National Assembly elections, adding that distributions will start on Wednesday, February 20, across the 21 local government areas of the state.

The REC also said that all Card Readers sent to the state have been configured.

He said: “I can confirm to you that we have received all the sensitive materials meant for Kebbi state and all the Card Readers have been configured. By tomorrow (Wednesday) we shall start distributing the sensitive materials.”

According to Mahmud, voting exercise will take place in 2,398 polling units and 1,345 voting points in the 225 wards of the state.

Meanwhile, ahead of the Saturday, February 23 presidential and National Assembly elections, INEC said it has deployed 90% of materials needed for the conduct of the exercise.

The disclosure was reportedly made by a top official of the electoral commission.

Legit.ng gathered that the undisclosed source said that as at 4pm on Monday, February 18, the electoral commission had achieved over 90% success rate of deployment.

Besides the reconfiguration of card readers and alleged sabotage, INEC had cited logistical challenges as reasons for its postponement of the elections.
