KINGSPORT, TN – The Women's Basketball team brought in multiple AAC Awards on Wednesday evening, while sophomore Morgan Perkins (SO/Florence, SC) collected the Player of the Year award after her 590-point 2018-2019 season.
Perkins enters the Conference Tournament ranked 3rd in the NAIA in most points scored per game, averaging 21.8. The South Carolina native is just 19 shy of 1,000 career points as a sophomore, an accomplishment that most players fight to achieve in their senior year of play. Perkins also leads the conference in most rebounds per game, bringing in an average of 10.7 boards each game. In addition to Player of the Year, Perkins also landed a spot on the All-Conference First Team and All-Defensive Team.
Also receiving a spot on the All-Conference First Team would be junior Samantha Ring (JR/Carthage, NC) Ring is coming off her strongest season as she collected 416 points and sank 88 three-pointers, ranking her 9th in the NAIA in most three-pointers made in a season. In addition to the All-Conference Team, Ring also collected a spot on the All-Academic Team, maintaining a 4.0 GPA during her time as a Knight.
Senior Kayla Clifton (SR/Norfolk, VA) displayed the five core values of Champions of Character: integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership which landed her a spot on the Champions of Character Team. Clifton would be the lone Knight to be named to the Champions of Character Team.
