Armenian parliament speaker hosts UN Resident Coordinator Shombi Sharp

President of the National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan on Thursday received UN Resident Coordinator Shombi Sharp, and managers and representatives of different UN-sponsored projects in Armenia to discuss the implementation of ongoing activities and future reforms.

Greeting the guests, Mirzoyan hoighlighted the UN mission's effective engagement in different areas of public life, reaffirming the parliament's interest in continuing the current projects to outline new prospects of cooperation.

''The United Nations' contribution to humanity is really invaluable. You can unhesitatingly treat the parliament of Armenia as your ally towards the implementation of your reforms in practically every area,'' he said.

According to the National Assembly's press service, Mirzoyan also highlighted the specialized UN agencies' collaboration with the Standing Committees, highlighting the parliament's role as the ''central government authority reflecting its voters' interests''.

Congratulating Mirzoyan and the heads of the Standing Committees on their election to office, Mr Sharp promised the United Nations' perminant assistance to the parliment in future capacity-building activities and reforms.  

The sides also shared their vision of future cooperation projects. They agreed, in particular, on plans to deepen the National Assembly's partnership with the UN family in Armenia to ensure also an active engagement by the Standing Committees.
