- The Lagos state chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has declared support for APC candidate, Sanwo-Olu

- The president of the group, Solomon Ogbunna, made this known, urging members to vote all APC candidates

- Ogbunna also called on the local rulers to warn their subjects against attack on Igbo during election

Solomon Ogbunna, the president Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos state chapter, on Tuesday, March 5, said the group would support All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governorship and state Assembly elections on Saturday, March 9.

Ogbunna told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that politics is all about interest, adding that Babajide Sanwo-Olu has demonstrated the desire to protect the Ndigbo interest, if elected as Lagos state governor.

Legit.ng gathers that speaking on the sporadic attack on Igbo during the last presidential and National Assembly elections in the state, he said the APC candidate would protect the Igbo interest better.

He said though the group was a social-cultural one that reserves the right to guide interest of members in order to remain relevant in the scheme of things.

He said the group was only supporting the governorship candidate that people were free to vote for candidates of their choice that would protect their interest in the state assembly.

Ogbunna said it is only Sanwo-Olu that has sympathised with the group following the attack on them during the last election.

Ogbunna: “The governorship candidate has said he will compensate victims of vandalism as a result of the last election in the state.

“Therefore, as I said earlier people should not be intimidated into voting for a person or party people should be allowed to vote candidate of their choice.

“It is my advice that people should vote for Sanwo-Olu. I urge all the traditional leaders in Lagos to caution their people against attack on the Igbo during this Saturday election because such may snowballed into wide crisis.''

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Lagos governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Jimi Agbaje, was on Monday, March 4, subjected to attack by Lagos youths, who claimed the pharmacist turned politician was trying to incite violence ahead of election.

The organising secretary of the youth group, Aregbe Idris, at a town hall meeting held in Ajeromi community of Lagos, was reported to have berated the PDP candidate for what he described as an attempt by him to "stir discord in the state with his failed political ambition."
