Wentworth MP Kerryn Phelps says the newly minted candidate for the seat of Curtin, Celia Hammond, will face an independent challenger from the left at the upcoming federal election. Following six hours of deliberations, West Australian Liberal Party members preselected conservative candidate Ms Hammond on Sunday to contest the blue ribbon seat left vacant by Julie Bishop's departure from politics. Ms Phelps told Sky News local millionaire and socially liberal candidate Louise Stewart will run against the Liberals at the upcoming federal election.
