[Women's Bowling] Women's Bowling posts eighth place finish in USBC Sectionals
DALLAS, Texas – The Kansas Wesleyan women's bowling team placed eighth in its first-ever appearance in the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate Team Sectionals as part of the three-day event held at USA Bowl over the weekend.
2019 marked the first time the Coyotes had received an invitation to the sectional event as a team.
"We gave a strong showing throughout the event," Wesleyan head coach Todd Zenner said. "We were in a spot to advance to the national event for a long time, but came up just a little short. We had a great year and I think our finish here will help us prepare to improve for next year."
The USBC Individual Sectional qualifier was held on Friday. The Coyotes got several strong performances in the event. Carolina Snowden (FR/Spanaway, Wash.) led the Coyotes with a 13th place finish with 1215 pins. Jackie Rodriguez (JR/Salina, Kan.) was 33rd with 1142, Katlyn Tabor (JR/Dodge City, Kan.) was 62nd with 1078 pins, Sara Taylor (FR/Mesquite, Texas) was 73rd with 1060 pins, Chloe Lovell (FR/Junction City, Kan.) and Madison Elskamp (FR/Topeka, Kan.) both tied for 94th with 1011 pins, Alexa Ingram (SR/Marquette, Mich.) was 97th with 1007 pins, Katy Clanton (FR/Newton, Kan.) was 107th with 985 pins, and Sarah Scarbrough (FR/San Antonio, Texas) was 110th with 981 pins.
In the team sectional event, the teams bowled 64 total games, in four 16-game blocks. Wesleyan was fourth after the first 16-game block on Saturday and maintained the fourth place position until late in the second block when the Coyotes slipped to eighth, where they remained the rest of the way.
McKendree was the Sectional winner with 12913 pins, followed by Alabama-Birmingham with 12410, Wichita State was third with 12389, William Penn was fourth, the first NAIA institution in the standings, with 12065, Newman was fifth with 12055, Midland was sixth with 11888, Ottawa was seventh with 11502, KWU was eighth with 11330, Baker was ninth with 11281, West Texas A&M was tenth with 10940, Morningside was 11th with 10934, Iowa Central CC was 12th with 10781 and Oklahoma Christian was 13th with 10621 pins.
The event caps a wildly successful season for the Coyotes on the lanes. KWU finished second in all the SWIBC regular season events and then won the SWIBC Championships last month in Shawnee, Okla. Carolina Snowden was named the SWIBC Player and Rookie of the Year after winning the SWIBC individual championship.
