Stability key to economic development in Armenia and Georgia – Zurabishvili  

Peace and stability in the region are an important precondition to pave the way for economic development in both Armenia and Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili said in Yerevan today, warning against possible threats to expand unresolved conflicts to other countries and regions.

''With our region being full of challenges, it is really important for us to have the knowledge that the problems will be resolved peacefully based upon [the principles of] international laws,'' the Georgian leader told journalists, summing up his meeting with President Armen Sarkissian.

Zurabishvili arrived in Yerevan earlier today on a two-day official visit (upon the president's invitation). Also on Wednesday, she visited the Armenian Genocide memorial to pay tribute to the big tragedy's victims.

''The peaceful co-existence and integration of citizens with Armenian and Azerbaijani descent is very important for us in our country,'' she said, expressing her commitment to do more for the Armenians in Georgia ''to promote their cultural and educational integration''.

Zurabishvili also addressed the border issues between Armenia and Georgia. ''We must work in that direction,'' she said. ''We have a great future lying ahead, and we both are optimistic. So we are going to continue the dialogue, not satisfying ourselves with just a statement.''
