PACE co-rapporteurs hail collaboration with Armenian ombudsman
Co-rapporteurs from the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly’s (PACE) Monitoring Committee highly praised the Armenian ombudsman's activity in the field of human rights, expressing willingness to continue the cooperation.
The delegation, which is in Armenia on a fact-finding mission, met with Arman Tatoyan earlier on Wednesday to discuss the implementation of different commitments and obligations. According to a press release by the Human Rights Defender's Office, the sides considered particularly the key trends and principles of current activities, focusing on the national policies proposing steps to prevent torture and ensure the protection of women, children, individuals with mental problems and disabilities in Armenia. They also addressed the Ombudsman's Office's activity in the period of the April-May, 2018 peaceful rallies in Yerevan (protection of peaceful protesters, permanent contacts with the police, efforts towards ruling out intolerance and hate speech, etc).
Thanking the co-rapporteurs for positive evaluations, Tatoyan also expressed his willingness to continue the collaboration with European colleagues in the field of human rights and strengthening of democratic institutions. The co-rapporteurs promised to sum up their findings in a separate report.
