Why isn’t Ashley Young playing against Wolves in the FA Cup?

ASHLEY YOUNG has emerged as one of Manchester United’s most consistent players since the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

But the former Aston Villa and Watford star won’t be appearing for the Red Devils in their massive FA Cup quarter final clash with Wolves – despite not being booked in over a month.

Why isn’t Ashley Young playing against Wolves in the FA Cup?

SOME fans are confused as to why Young is having to sit out the Molineux showdown through suspension.

The United full-back hasn’t received a yellow card since the end of February when he picked one up in the Premier League draw with Liverpool.

But he finds himself banned for the FA Cup quarter final due to a new FA ruling brought in this season.

Yellow cards are now completely competition specific, meaning that suspensions only occur in the competition that the player receiving the card was booked in.

As a result, his yellows in round four and five against Chelsea and Arsenal are rolled over into a one-game ban.

Millwall are also feeling the pinch of the new rule, with centre-back Murray Wallace suspended for their crunch tie against Brighton.
