Batyrzhan Jukembayev faces late opponent change
The last few months have been weird ones for Batyrzhan Jukembayev (14-0-0-2, 12) [Батыржан Джукембаевto], who went from essentially being disowned by his promoter to fixing that relationship to having a double booked opponent to now having a very late change of opponent.
Jukembayev, who fights tonight, was supposed to face Carlos Jimenez (14-9-1, 8) tonight, who had had been part of a scheduling faux pas having also agreed to fight Daniyar Yeleussinov one night earlier. That situation eventually worked out with Jukembayev Vs Jimenez being the bout that would go ahead. Jimenez however would fail to get a visa in time.
Instead of facing Jimenez the unbeaten Kazakh fight will end up facing very late replacement Gilberto Meza (10-5-1, 6).
Jukembayev is quote in Vesti.kz as saying:
“I was also told that Jimenez would not be able to enter, just a few days ago. He was not allowed to go to the border, because the Mexican had visa problems. They gave me such information,” says Dzhukembayev. “I’m not saying that I’m sorry, though there would be a good fight. My current opponent is also a good fighter. We will follow the original plan, we will fight and achieve a bright victory.
For me, this fight is very important because I’m watching large teleservices. Thanks to my promoter, he did a lot. The situation with Carlos is not their fault. This is a confluence of circumstances and personal problems of a Mexican. The caravan does not wait for those who have lagged behind. My mood is fighting, the weight reduction was successful, I am ready for the battle. Rakhmet to everyone for support."
Given this information it seems clear that the bout really was put together on short notice, but that Jukembayev is determined to put on a good performance and score a good victory.
It's worth noting that Meza has never been stopped and last year he gave Ablaikhan Khussainov all sorts of issues in Canada, albeit at Lightweight.
