Mike Thalassitis’ Love Island co-stars receive panicked calls and offered counselling from ITV bosses after his shock death
PANICKED Love Island producers called stars of the 2017 series on Sunday to ask about their state of mind after the shock death of Mike Thalassitis.
Former islanders including Marcel Somerville, 33, and Jonny Mitchell, 27, received calls — despite not hearing from bosses for more than a year.
It came as Health Secretary Matt Hancock hit out at TV bosses for failing to protect young reality stars.
He said: “I think it is a duty on any organisation that is putting people in a position of making them famous overnight, that they should also look out for them afterwards.”
Mike, 26, was found hanged in a woodland in Edmonton, North London, on Saturday.
Pals say the former semi-pro footballer was struggling to cope following the recent death of his nan.
ITV yesterday confirmed contestants had been offered bereavement counselling.
But Jonny, who said he was “trolled” after leaving the show, blasted the move.

He said: “To be honest I found it almost quite laughable. I just thought ‘How am I getting this phone call now?’ This is too little too late.”
A TV source told The Sun: “Unless you’re involved in a spin-off series or go on to have more work with ITV then you have no further contact with bosses.
“The damage has been done.”
