#11 Ohio State
Ohio State was very much a bubble team heading into Selection Sunday but snuck into the big dance by the skin of their teeth. The committee granted the Buckeyes the No. 11 seed in the Midwest region after they went 19-14 and were knocked out of the Big Ten tournament in the quarterfinals by the top seed and eventual champions Michigan State. Their resume wasn’t the most spectacular with only one win over a ranked opponent (Feb. 26 vs. No. 22 Iowa). They also come limping into the tournament, having won only three of their last 10 games. Sophomore Kaleb Wesson is the team’s go-to player as he leads them in points, rebounds, and blocks per game.
#6 Iowa State
Iowa State was handed a No. 5 seed for this year’s NCAA tournament after a 23-11 record and a pretty impressive run in the Big 12 tournament. Not much was expected of the Cyclones as they entered their conference’s postseason as the No. 6 seed. Three wins later and they were cutting down the nets for the sixth time in school history. They beat No. 15 nationally ranked Kansas State in the semifinals and No. 17 Kansas to win the tournament. Iowa State’s offense is very well-rounded as their production in those three wins proves. They had a different top scorer in each of the three and have four players that average double digits in scoring. Senior Marial Shayok leads the way with 18.6 points per game.
