Ant and Dec will be on TV together into their 80s, says Britain’s Got Talent judge David Walliams
ANT and Dec will be on TV together well into their 80s, according to David Walliams.
The Britain’s Got Talent judge believes the Geordie duo are this generation’s Morecambe and Wise – and will delight viewers for decades just like their late hero Bruce Forsythe.
Speaking to The Mirror, Walliams, 47, said of the telly hosts: “Bruce was getting on for 70 years in the business.
“It’s quite hard to think that anybody could have that kind of longevity because of the way technology changes, it’s tough.
“But I think the only people you could imagine having a 60 or 70-year career are Ant and Dec.”
Ant McPartlin, 43, will rejoin best pal Declan Donnelly, also 43, to kick of this year’s BGT auditions on Saturday week.
It will be his first on-screen appearance since his drink-drive shame and rehab for alcohol and prescription drug dependency last year.
He has also split from wife Lisa Armstrong since he last hit Britain’s screens during Ant And Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway in March 2018.
Walliams said of Ant and Dec’s enduring popularity: “When something is successful, there is always a sprinkling of fairy dust, you can’t quite explain what makes it work.”
He added: “They have a wonderful relationship and true camaraderie, they are the closest we have to Morecambe and Wise.”
In a dig at old rival Simon Cowell he added that And and Dec remain “normal” and down-to-earth despite their fame, unlike Cowell “arriving in his Rolls-Royce.”

In January, an emotional Ant broke down in tears and hugged pal Dec as they both won the National Television Award for Best Presenter for the 18th year in a row.
They were presented with their plaques during filming for the upcoming BGT series.
Commenting on the shock win, which came despite Ant’s months-long absence from TV, he said: “Thank you this is a genuine shock, especially this year.
“I’m shaking here, we want to say thank you to everybody – I really don’t feel like I can accept this this year.”
Holly Willoughby stood in for Ant to present I’m A Celeb alongside Dec last year.
