Racing Report Card: One for the tracker, a sensational ride and a horse on the up
THE sun shone bright around the racecourses today and made for radiant spectacles up and down the country.
There were classy performances in abundance and we’ve kept you in the loop in case you missed out on some of today’s action.
One for your tracker
Wolves 2.50 – Caplin (6-4f)
Mark Johnston’s progressive colt impressed on reappearance and did it even more stylishly today, leading early and putting the race to bed at the furlong pole.
He’s clearly benefited from a gelding operation and has untapped potential under these conditions.
The stable has been firing in the winners and this fellow is well worth keeping an eye on as he certainly hasn’t stopped progressing just yet.
Horse on the up
Another day, another win for Coopers Square (2.40, Warwick).
Trainer Tom Weston only has a handful of horses but has done supremely well with his eight-year-old, who’s won his last four completed starts.
But for an unseat when sent off 8-11f at Huntingdon, he might well have made it five – and he hasn’t stopped improving yet.
The manner of today’s win, where he was headed but stayed on strongly, suggests another 3lb rise may not handicap him out of things just yet.
Ride of the day
If you want a top jock who never makes mistakes on the all-weather, look no further than Richard Kingscote.
He gave Reflektor (3.55, Wolves) a picture-perfect ride from the front, judging his fractions to a nicety as he saw off a strong little field.
It was a performance we’ve come to expect from the talented pilot, whose winning record speaks for itself.
