Emmerdale’s Louisa Clein reveals best mate Judge Rinder is secretly supporting her through paedo storyline
EMMERDALE’S Louisa Clein, who plays Maya Stepney in the soap, has revealed Judge Rinder has been secretly supporting her through the difficult plot.
The actress has been at the centre of an explosive paedophile storyline, which has seen her character groom and abuse 15-year-old pupil Jacob Gallagher.
Speaking to What’s On TV magazine about how she’s coping with the pressure of playing such a role, the 40-year-old said Robert Rinder, had been “amazingly supportive”.
“It’s great,” Louisa revealed. “Because he’s working in Manchester at the moment, so when I’m not filming in Leeds, I’ll often go across there and we’ll hang out a bit.
“…he’s been amazingly supportive.
“He gives me lots of good advice. It’s mostly about what to wear to certain events and how to wear my hair, and what I mustn’t do. He’s my total style advisor.”
Louisa and Robert have been mates for years, with the daytime TV judge even introducing her to her now-husband, barrister Jeremy Brier.
She said: “He introduced me to my husband Jeremy – they’d been old buddie
s from university time – and he was our best man.
“Did he do a speech – he was hilarious. My husband’s speech was also hilarious, so they out-speeched each other. And then my husband was best man at his wedding, so he got his own back.”
Louisa has also seen Judge Rinder’s work first-hand, heading down to the cells to meet some of his “unsavory clients”.

She said: “I shadowed Rob when he was a criminal barrister. I watched lots of his trials, and went down to the cells with him to meet some of his slightly unsavoury clients. It was absolutely fascinating.”
Emmerdale fans have been horrified by the grooming storyline between teacher Maya and her student/step-son Jacob, played by Joe Warren-Plant.
This week viewers were sickened as David – Maya’s boyfriend and Jacob’s dad – told his son to be “good” for Maya while he went on holiday.
