Sberbank hires ex-Raiffeisen banker for newly created investment job

Sberbank, Russia’s biggest lender, has instituted a position of chief investment officer (CIO) in its wealth management division and hired former Raiffeisen Bank executive Sergei Schepilov to fill it in.

Schepilov, who has a 20-year record of work in banking with a specialism in financial market and treasury operations, headed a capital markets sales and trading team at Raiffeisen for six years.

During this Raiffeisen stint “he managed to achieve a substantial increase in the profits of the unit, implement a model of trade in a range of assets, introduce an electronic trade system, and build a brokerage service for individuals,” Sberbank said in a statement.

Part of Schepilov’s duties will be to oversee the CIOs of the wealth management division – insurance companies, pension funds and asset management firms.
