[Softball] Vikings Split with Wildcats

Canton, MO - Grand View goes 1-1 in Wednesdays match up with Culver-Stockton College at Himsl Field. The Vikings move to a 10-5 overall record and 4-2 in the conference.

The Vikings will host Mount Mercy in their season home opener on Saturday, March 30. The doubleheader will begin at 1 pm.

The Vikings took an early lead in the first inning over the Wildcats 1-0. After the close, first three innings, Grand View pulls away in the fourth to solidify their 4-1 victory.

Lexi Merritt led the Vikings at the plate with two hits and two RBI followed by Alyx Witt (FR/Norwalk, IA) with two hits and one RBI.

Libby Yenger (SR/Indianola, IA) earned the win on the mound for the Vikings, allowing the Wildcats one run on two hits.

A scoreless first three innings caused a slow start for the Vikings in the second game. The Wildcats took a 2-0 lead after the first two innings. In the fourth inning, the Vikings got on board after Merritt singled through the ride and advanced the third off Lauren Poortinga (SR/Des Moines, IA)'s double up to left center. Kaylee Watson (SO/Stockport, IA) hit a 2-run single to tie the game 2-2.

Culver-Stockton answered with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 4-2 advantage over the Vikings. Witt homered down the left line to start the seventh inning cutting the Wildcat lead to one but Grand View was unable to bring in another run, dropping the game 4-3.

Meaghan Grah (JR/Boronia, Australia) started on the mound for the Vikings in the second game against Culver-Stockton. Grah pitched four innings allowing seven hits, four runs, and committing four errors. Witt closed the game, pitching the last two innings for Grand View. Witt allowed two hits.
