Married at First Sight fans celebrate Steph and Jonathan’s split just three weeks after getting hitched
MARRIED At First Sight viewers celebrated after tonight’s grande finale when they discovered Steph and Jonathan decided to go their separate ways.
The pair revealed their marriage just wasn’t working out and they’re now going to divorce.
Fans were glad Steph and Jonathan weren’t able to make it work as a couple – mainly because of Steph’s “manipulative” behaviour – and they took to Twitter to make their feelings known.
One wrote: “Steph is exhibiting classic manipulative behaviours. Poor Jon is so confused. He’s better off out of it!”
Another said: “Poor old Jonathan he can’t win. If he’d have done something to try and strengthen the marriage that would have been wrong. So he gives her what he thinks she wants – an annulment – and more moaning!”
A third wrote: “That’s just a sign of a disastrous relationship – Jonathan saying I’m trying to be the person Steph wants me to be??? Just be yourself if she doesn’t like it she’s not for you!”
A fourth said: “I get Steph doesn’t think they’re well matched but does she actually need to sigh with despair because Jonathan is giving her gifts?
“No wonder she’s only attracted a**holes before! Oh wait…it’s divorce papers!”
It came as even more of a shock as both were confident they could buck the trend and become the first couple in the show’s history to last the distance.
In the first episode, Jonathan, 35, mused: “If this can’t work with so much preparation matching us, what can?”
And the first impressions are looking good, with Stephanie saying: “When I first saw him I thought ‘Oh, he’s smiling,’ which is a good sign. It’s felt very natural and normal throughout.”
The pair hoped to avoid the same messy fate as last year’s contestants Ben Jardine and Stephanie Saintremy, whose relationship ended in divorce amid a very public fallout.
But as The Sun Online revealed in March, Steph and Jonathan broke up days after the wedding and can’t bear to be in the same room as each other.
As the name suggests, Married At First Sight sees two complete strangers meet for the first time on their wedding day.
Experts select compatible couples from a list of applicants, then invite them to marry on their first meeting.

The singles are also faced with having to persuade their friends and family – and maybe even themselves – that marrying a stranger is not a crazy idea.
The couples then spend several weeks in shared accommodation after their marriage to try and build their relationship, before deciding whether they would like to stay married or get a divorce.
