Emotions ran high for both pro- and anti-abortion rights campaigners gathered outside the Constitutional Court of Korea on April 11 as the country’s 66-year-old abortion ban was overturned. Advocates from both sides had intense reactions upon hearing the court’s verdict, as images and videos shared by Seoul-based journalist Raphael Rashid show. According to Rashid’s tweets, pro-abortion rights campaigners were euphoric at the decriminalization of early-term abortions, while their counterparts were “furious” at the decision. The Korea Times reported that the court ordered the National Assembly to revise laws by December 31, 2020, to permit abortion in the early stages of pregnancy, with “detailed regulations such as how many weeks into a pregnancy an abortion should be permitted.” Credit: Raphael Rashid (@koryodynasty) via Storyful
