Donald Trump mistakes 55% disapproval rating for approval rating

0

Donald Trump accidentally celebrated a ‘soaring’ 55% approval rating that was actually the percentage of those who dislike him.

The president shared a Fox Business Network graphic on Twitter Thursday that incorrectly displayed his unfavorable rating as his job approval rating – which was found to be significantly lower.

A Georgetown Politics poll, which was misinterpreted by Fox News, found that only 43% approve of the job Trump is doing, while the majority of Americans remain unsatisfied with what the president has accomplished.

The Fox Business Network issued an on-air correction on Thursday after the backwards graphic was featured on the ‘Lou Dobbs Tonight’ show Wednesday night.

‘It’s been quite a start to the day for President Trump, though he did send out a tweet this morning from the Lou Dobbs show last night on Fox business,’ Washington correspondent Blake Burman said on behalf of news channel.

‘That tweet featured a poll that was not entirely accurate, which Fox Business would like to correct.’

The correction came after the president had already gloated about the ‘Great news!’ to his 59.6 million Twitter followers in a post that featured the graphic – which he had not taken down as of Thursday afternoon.

Fox Business News did not completely botch the graphic, which Burman made sure to stress in his statement.

’58 percent of respondents approved of the president’s handling of the economy. That portion of the graphic was right,’ he said.

Fox News White House Correspondent Kevin Corke also issued an apology, claiming there was a ‘typo in the graphic’ disregarding Dobbs’ congratulatory spoken monologue where he repeatedly praised Trump’s ‘robust’ false approval numbers.

‘The president’s victories are showing up in the polls according to a Georgetown University poll,’ Dobbs said during his Wednesday segment as the soon-to-be debunked graphic stretched across the entire screen.

‘The president’s overall approval is now 55 percent—let’s hear that, 55 percent—and approval rating for president’s handling of the economy, a robust 58 percent. Fifty-five percent is pretty robust too, don’t you think?’

Dobbs plans to address the error on his Thursday night broadcast, a Fox Business spokesperson told The Daily Beast.
