MLB News: Braves, Albies Agree to Extension
The Atlanta Braves have locked up second baseman Ozzie Albies Jr. for the long-term according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. The deal is seven years, $35 million with a pair of club options according per Joel Sherman of the New York Post. The two option years are valued at $7 million each with a $4 million buy-out for each.
Albies, 22, is slashing .364/.429/.500 this season after posting a 3.8 bWAR in his first full season in 2018. The switch-hitter wasn’t due to become a free agent until after the 2023 season. The new deal guarantees he will under Braves team control through the 2025 season.
Earlier this month, the Braves locked up young outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. through the 2026 season.
