Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell to debut Adidas signature sneaker on court during 2019 playoffs
SALT LAKE CITY — After months of minor tweaks, wear testing and practicing in them, Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell is set to debut his signature Adidas sneakers during the 2019 playoffs, according to a Deseret News source.
Utah will face the Houston Rockets during the first round as the fifth seed. Game 1 is set for Sunday in Houston at 7:30 p.m. MT on TNT.
Mitchell's D.O.N. Issue #1 won't release until July 5 for $100, but the rising star has often teased numerous colorways via social media, including the Marvel-themed version that will release first in conjunction with the "Spider-Man: Far From Home" movie. He also filmed a commercial that has yet to be released during All-Star Weekend in Charlotte.
D.O.N. stands for "Determination Over Negativity" and Mitchell often draws national praise for his pregame sneaker giveaway to random fans before every game.
He is set to become the first Jazz player with a signature shoe since Hall of Famer Karl Malone wore the Apex Mailman in 1998.
"I'm not big on the design process as far as picking the sole, the back, the heel, but I like to see the shoe and be like, 'All right, this is cool, this is hot,' and that's pretty much what my input was and that made it easy for them, and they were telling me that as I get older, that's going to change for me," Mitchell told the Deseret News during All-Star Weekend in February. "I'm going to start wanting to get more into picking out my stuff. They said some guys sketch it out.
"So, I'm not there yet but one day I will get there, but I just wanted to get the heel fixed and then go from there."
