Khartoum Protests Continue Into the Evening Despite Upcoming Curfew

0
Protesters in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum remained outside the military headquarters past sunset on April 11, despite an upcoming 10pm curfew, social media users reported. Earlier in the day, the Sudanese military announced President Omar al-Bashir had been deposed and that a military council would oversee a two-year transitional period before elections. They also declared a curfew between 10pm and 4am, local media reported. Leading protest group, the Sudanese Professionals’ Association, issued a statement rejecting the military’s declaration, claiming its intervention “reproduced the same faces and institutions that our courageous people have revolted against.” The group encouraged continued protests at the army’s headquarters in Khartoum and military posts around the country “until state power is reinstated to a civilian transitional government that represents the forces of the revolution.” Credit: @alkangr via Storyful
