Photos and videos of the woman, identified by social media users as Alaa Salah, were widely shared on Monday by social media users in Sudan, who dubbed her ‘Kandake,’ according to the New Arab. Kandake is the title of ancient queens of the Kingdom of Kush. The billboard features a chant that evokes ancient Sudanese figureswhich was heard in footage of Salah: “My grandfather is Taharqa, my darling is Kandake.” Taharqa was a king of ancient Egypt and the Kingdom of Kush, present-day Sudan, according to Sudanese media.
