2019 Sandhurst Military Skills Competition, West Point

Hundreds of military cadets from more than a dozen countries have gathered together at the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, New York, to participate in West Point’s 51st Sandhurst competition, April 12-13. Sandhurst, a premier international military academy competition which began in 1967, is a two-day, approximately 30-mile course filled with individual- and squad-based events designed to promote military excellence of future leaders across the world. This year, 49 teams from more than a dozen countries will participate in the competition, with two first-time teams competing from Denmark and Greece.

Sandhurst is the world’s premier international academy military skills competition that inspires excellence through rigorous physical and mental challenges that reflect the tempo, uncertainty and tasks of combat operations. The competition strengthens relationships with our allies and partners to foster multi-national cohesion and interoperability and showcases the tenacity and grit of future leaders of the Armed Forces across the world.

The quality of the competition is maintained with a 50-team threshold filled with the best competitors from USMA regimental teams, Cadet Command’s Ranger Challenge program, international partners and other service academies.
This year’s competition is a two-day course with several day and night events that are individual, squad skill mastery and leader focused.

Sandhurst Military Skills Competition

Hosted by the U.S. Military Academy at West Point since 1967, Sandhurst promotes military excellence of future leaders from across the world. The 51st competition encompasses 49 teams representing 14 international military academies, 16 USMA teams, 16 ROTC programs, and three U.S. service academies. The teams compete in a rigorous 27-mile course to test individual and squad mastery of military skills.

The U.S. and international strategic partnerships forged over the last five decades at the military skills competition is built on a foundation of shared values, experiences and vision.
