Poroshenko: Germany and France support idea of Normandy Four meeting
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko says the leaders of Germany and France have agreed to hold a meeting in the Normandy Four format after the presidential election in Ukraine, adding it will most likely be held in France.
“We’ve received an absolutely clear message that immediately after my election for a new term – we are convinced that there will be a window of opportunity – a summit in the Normandy format will be held. Most likely, it will take place in France, just on the fifth anniversary of the creation of the Normandy format,” Poroshenko said on TV Channel Inter by a video link from Paris after a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on April 12.
Earlier in the day, Poroshenko visited Berlin, Germany, where he met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The Normandy format was formalized at a meeting of the leaders of Ukraine, Germany, France and the Russian Federation at the Château de Bénouville, Normandy (France), on June 6, 2014, during official events to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Normandy landings (1944).
