Former 49er Reuben Foster gets surprising penalty from NFL
Reuben Foster will be fined two game checks by the NFL but won’t face a suspension for his role in a domestic incident that led to his release by the 49ers in November.
The league announced Friday its investigation determined the Washington linebacker did not violate the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy in connection with a dispute with his ex-girlfriend at a Tampa hotel room. Charges against Foster, however, were dropped in January.

In releasing its statement, the NFL warned the former 49ers first-round pick he’ll face a much tougher penalty if he has any further troubles.
“Foster has acknowledged that he is responsible for his actions, and he has committed to a comprehensive accountability plan developed by the league, the NFLPA, and (Washington) to help him grow personally and avoid future misconduct. Foster was advised that any future incidents will likely result in more substantial discipline,” the league said.
Multiple reports indicate Foster will not appeal the fine levied against him.
Foster was released by San Francisco about 12 hours after being arrested for the second time on suspicion of domestic violence against Elissa Ennis, his on-again, off-again girlfriend. Both 49ers general manager John Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan said at the time of Foster’s release it didn’t matter whether he was guilty or not because he simply didn’t follow their guidelines.
In a controversial move, Washington claimed Foster on waivers despite him impending legal troubles.
The 49ers essentially replaced Foster with the free-agent signing of former Tampa Bay linebacker Kwon Alexander, who signed a reported four-year, $54 million deal.
