Bryson DeChambeau scores his first ever hole in one on Masters 16th

SUNDAY at the Masters has played host to many a special scene over the years and Bryson DeChambeau’s hole in one will rank up there with the best.

Only 20 players had shot an ace at the 16th hole of Augusta National in tournament history before the 25-year-old stepped up on the final day of the 2019 event.

His shot landed roughly 20 yards from the hole but headed straight for it as he read the green perfectly.

Once it nestled in the hole, the crowd went wild with DeChambeau instinctively hugging Takumi Kanaya, the Japanese amateur taking part in the same round.

Remarkably, the hole in one was Dechambeau’s first.

He came very close to the same feat during the pre-tournament Par 3 contest and admitted afterwards that the near miss was typical of his time on the course.

“I’ve never had an ace, ever, unfortunately,” the World No 6 told Golf Digest after Wednesday’s attempt at the 16th.

“I was really hoping it would go in.”

Sunday’s round began with DeChambeau two-under par after his form on day one faded.

A round of six-under par had him among the early leaders but poor outings on Friday and Saturday continued into Sunday with two double-bogeys on his first two holes.

But a comfortable midfield position will be put to one side with this hole in one a special moment for a player who has never finished inside the top ten at a major tournament.
