One dead and at least 19 injured in ‘major incident’ after bus and two cars crash
A major incident has been declared this afternoon after a bus crash left one dead and 19 people injured.
A double-decker and two cars collided, trapping passengers in the wreckage.
Over 15 emergency service workers are in attendance at the scene in Newport, Isle of Wight, with three air ambulances called in from neighbouring counties.
Fire crews were this afternoon rescuing people from the wreckage of the crash on the single-carriageway road lined by trees and fields.
So far, 19 people have been taken to hospital – including four patients who were airlifted.

Police closed off the road at all entrances and casualties were rushed to hospital following the crash, which happened at around 1pm.
St Mary’s Hospital, Newport, has brought in extra members of staff to deal with the influx of patients being brought into accident and emergency.
Collision investigators are currently working on the scene to determine the cause of the crash.
Richard Tyldsley, Southern Vectis general manager, said: ‘We are aware of a serious collision today involving one of our route 7 buses.
‘At this stage the full circumstances and details of any injuries are unclear and we are investigating.’
