OPP identify pedestrian struck and killed on Highway 401
A pedestrian struck and killed by a passing tractor trailer on Highway 401 near Kingston early Saturday has been identified, Ontario Provincial Police reported Sunday.
OPP officers from the Frontenac detachment responded to the incident just before 4 a.m. Robert B. Gale, 62, of Prince Edward County, was pronounced dead at the scene.
No reason was given for the man’s presence on the highway.
The driver of the tractor trailer remained at the scene to speak with police, and OPP technical collision investigators were examining the scene on Saturday. Police said they did not anticipate any charges being laid against the truck driver.
Westbound lanes of Highway 401 at Joyceville Road reopened just before 1:30 p.m.
The OPP requested that anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the collision or might have information about it contact the Frontenac OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
